NEW M’BARK STATION CARPARK BY 2011

Friday, 17th September 2010 for immediate release

Mooroolbark Station will get a new car park under a Baillieu Coalition Government.

Shadow Transport Minister Terry Mulder and Local MP David Hodgett announced today that the new car park would begin construction in early 2011 and would alleviate the site’s current parking, traffic and safety issues.

“The car parking situation at Mooroolbark has been in an unacceptable state for a long time,” Mr Hodgett said, “and despite my repeated calls to the Brumby Government, there has been no action.”

“Mooroolbark Station caters to a large number of commuters each day, and given its proximity to the shops, the current parking arrangement simply cannot handle the demand for parks,” Mr Mulder said.

“Anyone who has been there at peak hour will tell you that the parking areas need to be bigger, and better organised to facilitate the flow of traffic and the high number of commuters,” Mr Mulder said.

“This new parking facility will create more spaces,” Mr Hodgett said. “It will provide better security and lighting, and it will ensure easier entry and exit from the car park, better handling the traffic flow.”

“The Brumby Government has sat on its hands for too long. I am excited that with a Coalition Government will come action in the form of a new, better car park for the central hub of Mooroolbark, Mr Hodgett said.”
