COALITION ANNOUNCES $200,000 FOR BEAUTIFICATION OF BAYSWATER NORTH RETARDING BASIN

Tuesday, 26th October 2010 for immediate release

Bayswater North Retarding Basin will be turned into family friendly parkland under a Coalition project announced by Kilsyth MP David Hodgett and Shadow Environment Minister Mary Wooldridge today.

Mr Hodgett said that if elected in November, a Baillieu Government will spend $200,000 beautifying the Melbourne Water Retarding Basin.

“This will be a great project for the people of Bayswater North,” Mr Hodgett said. “The Bayswater North community has shown through groups like BLISS that they are committed to walking paths, picnic areas and associated recreational pursuits.”

“This project will provide a clean, accessible area of parkland next to the Canterbury Gardens Shopping Centre,” he said.

The Bayswater North Retarding Basin is located behind Canterbury Gardens shopping centre with the Dandenong Ranges featuring as a magnificent backdrop.

Mrs Wooldridge said the works would be great for the local community and the environment. “The beautification will provide family friendly parkland, and shows the Coalition’s commitment to environmentally conscious improvements in suburbs such as Bayswater North.”

Mr Hodgett commended the local paths and parking action group who have worked extremely hard to gain access to the Canterbury Gardens shopping centre through the retarding basin land and who have lobbied to improve safety for pedestrians in the Bayswater North Community.

“This project complements the work of the Bayswater North Community Renewal Program and will open up the retarding basin as a recreational asset for local residents.”
