HODGETT ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR AUSTRALIA'S BIGGEST TABLE TENNIS CLUB - CROYDON

Tuesday, 26th October 2010 for immediate release

Croydon and Districts Table Tennis Association will get a $40,000 cash bonus under a Baillieu Coalition Government, Kilsyth MP David Hodgett announced today.

Croydon and Districts, the biggest table tennis club in Australia, is based out of Kilsyth Sports Complex, and can use the funding for new lighting, replacement tables and equipment upgrades.

Mr Hodgett said this was a big win for a group that was often overlooked for funding. “Despite the size of the club, the members at Croydon and Districts have often been neglected for funding in favour of some of the bigger sporting projects,” Mr Hodgett said.

“Croydon and districts have been around since 1957 and have over 450 dedicated members, making them the biggest table tennis club in Australia. I am delighted to be able to support such a community focused local sporting group,” Mr Hodgett said.

Mr Hodgett said the club could put some of the funding to new florescent lighting, helping quell rising electricity costs. “The $25,000 that it would cost the club to install energy efficient florescent lighting above all of their tables would reduce their power usage by 75 per cent and would result in roughly $20,000 per year in savings.”

Croydon and Districts Table Tennis Association runs both junior and senior programs and has a membership that spans from six and seven year olds to their oldest member at 86.

“The Association survives on the work of volunteers, and this funding will provide a valuable capital boost, enabling Croydon and Districts to pay for much needed works and equipment upgrades,” Mr Hodgett said.

The Croydon and Districts Table Tennis Association meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights at the Kilsyth Table Tennis Centre which adjoins with Kilsyth Sports Stadium on Liverpool Road, Kilsyth.
