$200,000 FOR HULL ROAD, MOOROOLBARK FIVE-WAYS PEDESTRIAN CROSSING UNDER COALITION
A Coalition Government will spend $200,000 building a pedestrian crossing at the five-ways roundabouts in Mooroolbark, local Liberal MP David Hodgett announced today.
After several pedestrian related incidents surrounding the intersection in recent years, Mr Hodgett announced a Baillieu Coalition Government would fund the works to be located on Hull Road.
“This will address a huge safety concern at the five-ways in Mooroolbark,” Mr Hodgett said. “The five ways roundabouts have been a pedestrian blackspot for years, with local residents crossing the roads to access the train station and local shops.”
Mr Hodgett said that since being elected in 2006 he had repeatedly raised the need for pedestrian signals on Hull Road, but John Brumby and VicRoads had merely said that they would ‘monitor’ the situation.
“Monitoring’ is not good enough. Pedestrians find negotiating the roundabouts difficult, as Hull Road is a major arterial road connecting Lilydale with Croydon via Mooroolbark.”
“I am delighted that I can now announce that a Coalition Government will spend $200,000 to construct a safe pedestrian crossing at the intersection. This demonstrates the Baillieu Coalition’s commitment to pedestrian safety and addressing local issues.”
Mr Hodgett has raised the safety of the intersection on many occasions in Parliament, including in 2008 when a 15 year old boy was hit by a car while attempting to cross the intersection.
If re-elected, I will be ensuring that these much needed pedestrian lights are installed during 2011,” Mr Hodgett said.
