COALITION PLEDGES TO BUILD TRAFFIC LIGHTS AT TROUBLE SPOT IN EAST RINGWOOD

A Liberal Nationals Government will spend $200,000 to build traffic lights at the dangerous intersection of Eastfield Road, Railway Avenue and Morinda Street, Kilsyth MP David Hodgett and Shadow Minister for Roads and Public Transport Terry Mulder announced today.

“A Coalition Government will provide $200,000 to the upgrade of this busy intersection,” Mr Mulder said.

Mr Hodgett said it was a great win for local road users who were frustrated by the peak hour traffic jams and that it was fantastic news for East Ringwood residents after 11 years of neglect from John Brumby.

“During peak hours, traffic congestion on the east side of the intersection is compounded due to the difficulty motorists coming from Mt Dandenong Road along Easfield road have in turning right into Railway Avenue to access the shops and station, or to cross to Morinda Street or get out of Morinda,” Mr Hodgett said.

Mr Hodgett said that the Liberal Nationals’ new traffic lights would reduce driver frustration and increase both driver and pedestrian safety.

“This intersection has been the site of a number of traffic accidents and incidents over many years and it’s arguably the number one black spot in the city of Maroondah,” Mr Hodgett said.
